I was happy to finally cross this animal off my life list. A black bear amongst the season-changing quaking aspen.
We were unsure why it had treed itself. We thought it might be a cub and threatened by something below. Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, BC.

Is it uncommon for bears to climb trees?
ReplyDeleteA life list of animals to see . . . what a good idea. Several years ago I saw on a mountain path what looked like nothing other than a tiny mongoose, it bounded towards me and was reddish in color, like a fox, with white fur on its belly. Its movement was almost . . . magical. It bounded towards me, and then away. I kept the image of the creature in my mind.
I love to see animals. My son is most drawn to horses, though I believe he has a special connection to birds.
I like the quote from DH Lawrence:
'I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.'
